Night Life :)

I had my first taste of European night life last night. It is our last free weekend until after Christmas, and a few of the girls had been talking about going out with the handball team all week. I was excited to get out of the gym and relax a little bit with the girls.
I definitely did not expect that by going out, I would be getting home from a discothèque in Aix-en-Provence at 5:45 in the morning! We left to get drinks at a gorgeous outdoor bar in the center of Istres, and when Yuliya asked me if I wanted to go to the club after I said of course, because it was only midnight. Little did I know the club was almost 45 minutes away and last call wasn’t until 6 am. I had a blast and it was nice to meet some of the other athletes from town. The actual venue was pretty much at the end of a dirt road in the middle of nowhere with giant gravel parking lots surrounding it. We got there at nearly 1 am and no one was even there yet. But it was so fun to people watch and I thankfully got to sleep in on the way home. I don’t know how people do that every weekend! Haha.
I’m back on the beach today and it’s very hot, but I’m enjoying one of my last beach days of the summer before games get started on Monday. The water is so clear I can see my feet perfectly.

This is one of the original entrances to Istres, lit up at night.

Flaming shots we had at the bar downtown.

It’s hard to see here but this is the bar in the nightclub we went to. The bartender let me spray gas on it and then he lit it. Definitely not something that would be allowed in the States!

More pictures to come soon. xo

Dear Party Girl; Sounds like your first night out was a real blast. I guess I really must be getting old. I never would last all night but then, I never did. I can’t believe you are only 45 minutes from Aix. I was so thrilled to get there. I’m sure you didn’t see anything of the charming town and hope you will go back in the daytime. I had dreamed of being there for years.
Gramps is busy translating your schedule. It looks like only 1 game a week; is that correct? Can you find out what the weather is like in February and March? That would be helpful.
And, what was that drink on the bar?
    Love, Gramz
